Ayurveda - Science of Healthy Living

Dear Visitor,

I want to show you, how to use ayurvedic principles to live a more balanced and happier life. I will teach you to recognise your individual strengths and weaknesses and how to work with them.

Ayurveda is the traditional ancient wisdom of a healthy lifestyle, wherein health is seen as mental, spiritual and bodily balance. The word 'Ayurveda' is made up of 'Ayur' - life and 'Veda' - knowledge. It is not only a complete medical system, but also a philosophy.

Ayurveda teaches that the universe consists of five basic material Elements:

Prithvi

Water and earth

Tej

Fire

Vayu

Air

Akash

Ether

According to Ayuveda, real health can only be achived if we fulfill our duties of Dharma (the duty towards others), Artha (using sense-organs to understand and analyse our surroundings), Kama (desires of every kind) and Moksha (salvation-breaking the circle of life and death). This is done through observing

Dinchary

Daily routine

Rutucharya

Seasonal routine

Sadvritta

Ethical routine

Aahara

Diet

Nidra

Sleep

Bramhacharya*

Avoiding purposeless mental and sexual intercouse.

Ayuveda prevents illness and assists the body in its natural ability to heal itself.

In a consultation, your constitution will be determined and imbalances of the 'three Doshas' (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) will be localised. A consultation should teach you how to restore balance.

At a later stage, ayurvedic manual therapies will assist you in this healing process.

Yours faithfully

Helena Poehlmann
